Tree of the Month! Colorado state champion red oak that lives in Boulder

“This is my favorite deciduous tree in Boulder county. One of my favorite trees in the world. It is a Colorado state champion red oak that lives in Boulder. I was on a team that pruned it two different times working for my dear friend, James Young of Bodhi Tree Care, 100 years ago… not really 100 years, more like 12 and then 10, but it seems like a long time. It is slowly consuming the gravestone (and the grave) of one Albert Leonard.

I’ve introduced many of my friends from the canopy and friends from terra firma to this tree over the years, including my friend Tony. He dubbed it King Albert, clearly its true name. I visited it today, happily caught it right in the midst of its fall foliage. It is truly a marvelous specimen, go see it for yourself. It’s in the south east corner of the Green Mountain Cemetery. Can’t miss it, it’s mammoth.” – Eric Kennedy, Co-Owner and Founder of Good People Tree Service
